Chic Management caught up with the Brisbane beauty Jessica Cavallaro read the full interview below.

Where are you from? What’s your background?

I was born and raised in Brisbane, Australia but my background is Italian. Both sides of my family originate from Sicily.

What do you love about your work?

The thing I love most about my job is getting the opportunity to collaborate with brands that I love and the incredible people I get to meet and work alongside. I am passionate about the fashion industry and am so inspired by the creative visions of designers, makeup artists, photographers and stylists and feel so privileged when I get to be a part of that vision.

I also love that I get to transform into someone completely different through makeup and clothing, and the confidence it gives me. There is nothing more exciting than looking in the mirror and seeing a version of myself that is so different from my every day. Sometimes I find myself putting on little personas to match  my look – it’s fun pretending to be someone else for a day!

Do you have any secret talents?

Umm… I can wriggle my ears!  I also love creating, and painting designs on denim clothing. Instead of throwing out old or boring pairs of jeans or denim jackets; I love modifying them and changing them into a wholly new and unique item of clothing. I love that I can wear something that not only no one else has, but is a reflection of myself and my personality.  It’s not so much of a talent as it is a hobby, but I get a lot of compliments and create unique items for family and friends which is pretty cool.

How do you take on Summer?

Summer is my absolute favourite season – there is no such thing as “too hot” for me! During summer you will find me on the beach, sunbathing and hanging out with my friends. Summer is the holiday season in Australia, and I love being able to spend quality time with my extended family. It is such a happy time of year, and it seems as though everything comes alive! I take advantage of the summer break and honestly enjoy relaxing and not doing much after having a busy year.

What is your ultimate escape?

I hate cold weather! So my ultimate escape would be to chase summer when the cold months make their way back to Australia.I would head to Sicily, my home away from home, and spend the summer months on the beach eating granitas and spending time with my family over there that I never get to see.

What’s your background?

I am from Argentina, I have been in the industry for a few years now…
So far I have lived in NY, Paris, London, Milan, Hamburg, Tokyo. I like that it gives me the possibility to race to know different cultures, languages and people!! I reconsider myself to be a curious and sensitive person and I really enjoy the details that each place I travel to offers me.

Favourite spot in Australia you have come across so far?

It’s my first time in Australia. I am really still exploring.
I really like this city!!!! The people!!! The form to work!! The energy. I’m very grateful!!

What’s your signature style when you are not off to castings?

When I’m not working I like to enjoy the new sites, to know the city and all that it offers, to see friends, to skate. I also have a great passion for cooking and art.

What do you love about the industry?

In Argentina, I was doing various projects, creating material for the modelling industry with friends, videos and production. I find it a very interesting industry.

What I like about it is to see the particular artworks process. You see the creation come together. In all the cities these all change and are different from one another. This seems very interesting to me.

Where are you usually based for work since you have started modelling?

I started modelling 8 years ago now. I was based in New York City for a few years and later on in Europe, particularly Paris and Madrid. I remember my first days in New York because it was so new for me. So many amazing things happening around me. Here I did my first shooting for Italian Vogue with Steven Klein in an incredible location by night. It was amazing!!

What is something so interesting and different about Buenos Aires in comparison to the rest of the world?

My beloved Buenos Aires. Of course I’m going to say that it’s one of the best cities in the world. I feel this way because you can never get bored there. People are always around. You can always meet up for a coffee with a friend or family. We like groups, we like to be surrounded by other people all the time. It’s also a big city with a lot of different cultures living there. It’s a mix of European costumes with our own Buenos Aires culture. In Buenos Aires there are a lot of things going on right now in Design, Art, Architecture, Music and of course food and wines. There’s always a protest against something going on in the streets. It is in our blood. We like to protest for everything, but we are very friendly and good hosts to people. I love how we are! Haha

How have you spend your time in Sydney when you have not been modelling?

When I have days off or even when I’m not free, I’m around with friends looking for an art exhibition or concerts also for coffee and dinner. I like to be outside and knowing the city, find cool spots. Doing what the locals do.

You Instagram feed has a beautiful range of artistic visuals? What inspires you creatively and stylistically?

I like to be inspired every day and I like to share this with other people, it makes me feel good. It’s easy today with social media and it’s also very useful to spread your point of view, your opinion, what you like, what you don’t. I like to read biographies, go to museums, to the opera, to the ballet. Last week I even went to the ‘Sydney Interior Design Event.’

With all this ‘constant feed of information’ I’ve decided to do something with it, so I started with my best friend a Swimsuits brand called OFFICINE D.I. (@officinedi) The brand is inspired by artists like Matisse, places like the Saint-Tropez and muses like Jane Birkin. We share our mood constantly, throughout our creative process, from the drawings to the final photo of the look book. I think people like that !! Seeing the process of the creation coming together. (Have a look  blog.officinedi.com)

One of the first things you must do when you wake up in the morning?

First things first. I clean my face, put some cream on it and then my routine of exercises or going for a run, get some fresh air and meditate a few minutes.

A Chic Exclusive Interview

Lydia Kirwood | Chic Profiles – Watch

Chic Profiles: Meet the blonde beauty Lydia Kirwood. Originally from the East Coast of Australia Lydia catches up with Chic on how she initially fell into modeling and her three key wardrobe items to live by.

 Lydia Kirwood

1. How did you firstly get scouted?

I pretty much just had an embarrassing Tumblr account and put a few selfies on Instagram. Photographers and brands then started contacting me directly after a while and it all continued to built from there.

2.  One thing people don’t generally know about you?

I really love building, using natural materials and learning about crazy alternative structures. It’s so interesting!

3. The all time favourite shoot you have done?

I really like the shoot I did with Claudia Smith recently. She shot it on film in Mullumbimby on my friend’s property right near my grandma’s farm. We styled it together and I pretty much just got to run wild.

4. How have you found social media and modeling together to be? (Has it helped your career or help created your own person style etc )

Social media has definitely been helpful, it’s like an online portfolio for all the work you’re proud of, you can discover interesting people, network and make it unique to yourself. On the other hand – it’s much more fun if you don’t take it too seriously, there’s no way a multifaceted person can be summed up on a grid of photos, and it’s not three dimensional.

5. What are your three favourite wardrobe items you live by?

I’m very pro capsule wardrobe. Straight leg levis, black leather shoes, and my lucky patchwork jacket.

Where are you from?
I’m from Buenos Aires Argentina but in this moment I’m calling home New York City.

Where were you discovered?

I started as a model because I was discovered at the streets walking my dog, my dog puffer and after that day everything started it has been amazing. I have had the opportunity to work with so many amazing designers, photographers and stylists.

I had the opportunity to work with Steven Meisel, I shot a Prada campaign a Tom Ford campaign where the stylist was Carine Roitfeld and the photographer was Tom Ford. I am really happy and really proud about everything that has happened.

What do you love about being in Australia?
I’m staying in Bondi Beach and I have to say I love this area. I love everything about it not just the beach but of course it is amazing. But I love the atmosphere. I love all the little cafes, I love the people how they are really sporty and they walk around and they have dogs. It’s really amazing, I love just waking up and if I don’t have to work go for a pilates class and then go for a coffee watching the beach and read my book. It’s really happy and really relaxing to be around this area.

Your favourite spot?

There’s a cafe call La Parida and I think it’s my favourite spot here. I go there everyday to grab my cappuccino and read my book. I think it’s my spot here at Bondi beach and I really enjoy.

Other favourite shoots you have shot for?

I also shot an editorial for Harpers Bazaar which was shot in Paris and the stylist was also Carine and the photographer was Karl Lagerfeld. I have to say that, that shoot was really nice and what I love about it was that when I told Karl that I was Argentinian he said that every Argentinean girl he met was really nice and that he loves Buenos Aires.
