Verna Reini – Bianca Spender Resort 2018

How has fashion week in Australia been for you in comparison to other Fashion Weeks?
The best I think but super hectic which I enjoy.

What was your favourite day from the week?
The one day where I did three shows.

Where are you from?
Helsinki, Finland.

Your worst habit ?
Taking naps where ever I am lol.

Lis Van Velthoven – Bianca Spender Resort 2018

What did you like about being a part of the Bianca Spender’s show?

Well I loved the spirit of being a team. All the girls were enthusiastic and Bianca is a sweet and talented designer so I loved to walk for her.

Where are you from?
I’m from Holland. A dutchie and no not from Amsterdam.

How has fashion week in Australia been for you in comparison to other fashion weeks?
Good! I am happy with the shows I have walked for. In comparison of other fashion weeks around the world, I did less castings and more shows. How amazing is that! And yes the whether is better as well.

What was your favourite day from the week?
Thursday. I walked Ten pieces, Akira and Romance was Born. I was relieved that fashion week was over but also in shock how fast the time past.

Your advice for surviving a fashion week?
Have fun! Enjoy every experience you get, because not every girl walks on that runway.

Martha Liversedge – Bianca Spender 2018

What did you love about the Bianca Spender show?
I really loved both looks, for Bianca Spender. The jumpsuit fabric was really luxurious and moved beautifully. The jacket with the skirt was a fabulous fit, both outfits were really classy and elegant.

Where are you from?
I am from Exeter, a small city in the south west of England. Sydney reminds me of a Exeter (except much larger), as both are really friendly cities; next to the coast; have fantastic walks. I love city life but it is great to be able to easily get to beautiful beaches and green areas to relax after the buzz of the city.
How has your fashion week in Australia been for you in comparison to other shows you have done internationally?
The layout of Sydney meant that it was easier to travel between castings than in some places.

What was the most exciting show during Mercedes Benz?
It is not possible to pick a favourite show as they were all amazing and very different. I was lucky to walk for Aje just before fashion week started, the dress was a beautiful design inspired by Pwerle Gallery. I really enjoyed leading the finale. We are Kindred was such a beautiful show with heavenly outfits. It was exciting walking the Nextgen show with new designers; the Mariam Seddiq show was incredibly stylish; Sass and Bide runway was simply stunning. But I have to say with wild hair, unicorn tear makeup and an incredible floaty dress for Romance Was Born runway gave me such incredible freedom. The drama and choreography were exquisite and I have never experienced anything like it!

What have you loved about being in Sydney?
Before coming to Sydney I had not been to Australia and I started with a couple of wonderful weeks in Cairns diving. Then to Sydney-what a place! The people are so helpful, friendly and hospitable. Great outdoor spaces and loads to do. It feels safe and is easy to navigate. Still getting used to looking up in Hyde Park to see the Ibis’ in the trees instead of pigeons!

Watch – Roberta Pecoraro & Rachel Rutt talk fashion week & walking for Dion Lee’s Resort 2018 Collection

Roberta Pecoraro – Dion Lee Resort 2018

What has been your favourite shows this year?

They were all amazing but my favourite shows would have to be Dion Lee, Sass and Bide and Kitx definitely, as they had a really good vibe to all of them.

How was walking for Dion Lee?
Dion Lee was amazing!! I got to open it which was an honour and such a privilege to open up to the whole of fashion week which is crazy, and Dion is such a lovely man to work with, he’s such a hard worker he really puts his time and effort into everything he does and it really shows on the runway. It was a lot of fun… it was good!

What were your favourite looks from the week?
There was so many looks! The one that really stands out… would probably be my sequins dress from Sass and Bide, it was insane, I felt like a goddess. The colours and everything, it was so cool.

What have you been wearing this week two and from shows?

I usually wear what is comfortable. It’s been quite chilly, so keeping warm as well. I haven’t really put too much thought into all my outfits, but it has to be comfortable cause your in them all day.

Rachel Rutt – Dion Lee Resort 2018

How was walking for Dion Lee at this year’s Mercedes Benz Fashion Week after first walking for him back in 2009?

It was the loveliest thing. You forget sometimes how these wonderful relationships creep up on you… someone that you met at such a tender, vulnerable age is now your friend for life… and you have had the privilege to know them, work and grow with them, and they’re a superstar. It was really sentimental and I felt incredibly honoured remembering all the wonderful shows we have done together.

What were you wearing and or what did you love about the collection?

I wore some beautiful raffia knitwear in red. Of course, I LOVE knitwear, and I appreciated how innovative it was with the fibre being paper-like. What I loved about this collection, and every collection of Dion’s, is that there has always such a structured and sculptural core. Everything feels skeletal yet rich at the same time. It’s also so amazing doing shows at the Opera House. This one really topped them all being outdoors, and just after the rain, with that glorious sunset and the jampacked audience.

What’s your favourite thing about Mercedes Benz Fashion Week in comparison to other fashion shows?

Other than being in Dion’s show, I had actually decided to sit this year out of fashion week, as I wanted to take a step back from my “model” image and bring more focus to what I have been doing in music for this year. I was invited to watch several of my favourite brand’s shows, including Romance Was Born, and it really just took my appreciation for shows to the next level. Of course, it’s so wonderful to be a part of the excitement and the energy, but this year I got to really appreciate what I have been lucky enough to play a part in for so long: showcasing an artist’s work.

Chantal Monaghan – Alice McCall Resort 2018

What’s been your favourite shows at this years Mercedes Benz?
My favourite shows have been Alice McCall, Ginger and Smart and Romance Was Born.

What’s your ideal street style for the week?

My street style is a leather jackets, t-shirts more grungy street style… New- York- ee.

What has been your favourite look?

My favourite look was at the Alice McCall show, my look was a blue dress flowing with a v- cut down the middle and at Ginger and Smart I was wearing a bathing suit with a sheer blue dress over the top which was also blue. Two blue things!

What’s the best thing about Australian Fashion Week in comparison to the other shows you have done in the International circuit?

Well this is actually my first Australian Fashion Week. It’s a lot more chill which I like and everybody knows everybody and it’s all the same people everywhere so that’s nice as overseas it’s all different people in and out of shows.

Ingrid Williams – Alice McCall Resort 2018

What was the over all atmosphere of the Alice McCall Resort 2018 show?

1.Backstage at Alice McCall the ambience was super vibrant and everyone was having a lot of fun!

How was your fashion week this year in comparison to other years?

2. Fashion week this year was full on as I had to run between Uni and shows. But I really enjoyed myself!

Watch – Ollie Henderson chats over Fashion Week and Romance Was Born’s Resort 2018 Collection

Ollie Henderson – Romance Was Born Resort 2018

What’s been your favourite show from this year?
My favourite show has definitely been Romance Was Born. I’ve been working with them almost since they started themselves and it’s just such a pleasure to work with the team. Anna and Luke are always brilliant and this year with their collaboration with Del Katherine Barton made it so special. I’m actually a big fan of her work as well. She painted my body for the catwalk this year so I had a fantastic afternoon hanging out with one of my idols and then being about to wear that on the catwalk was something really special for me.

How do you survive fashion week?

Survival in Fashion Week for me is all about finding you friends. One of my best friends is over from England doing the shows this year and it’s been such a pleasure who find her backstage and find the laughs between the shows.

Any weird and wonderful encounters?
I think perhaps the strangest moment during Fashion Week was having my body painted and being naked on the catwalk. It’s definitely not something I feel shy about but there is nothing that can really prepare you in being take in front of a room full of people.

The shows you did this year?

Not in this order, I did McGraw, Bec and Bridge, Sass and Bide, Cmeo Collective, Kitx, Alice McCall and Hanson and Gretel which was beautiful.

What’s the best look you’ve worn?

I’ve had really amazing looks this year! My favourite look would have, have to have been Bec and Bridge. I was wearing this cut little polka dot shift dress.

What’s been your favourite show this year?

My favourite show this year was probably the Sass and Bide show. We had a really big set. It was really gorgeous. The dresses were amazing, there were like 40 girls so it was really fun to be in such a big group. It was incredible.

Chic models Brooke Durrant and Holly Watson recap their week of Mercedes Benz Fashion week.

Brooke Durrant – Bec and Bridge Resort 2018

How has your fashion week been this year in comparison to the previous years?

Fashion week gets easier every year! Of course there’s the chaos with running from show to show and the early mornings and late nights but each year you just learn to take more and more good from it. I had an amazing fashion week this year! Busy and surrounded by friends and familiar faces 🙂

Do you have any defining moments from the Bec and Bridge show/ what were you wearing?

Ah yes!!! That show was everythingggg! I was wearing their sexy red hide pants with the pink ‘meow meow’ tee. I need that outfit in my wardrobe ASAP! Leading the finale was definitely a defining moment of the night! Their tracks were fire and I think all the girls loved what they were wearing so it was a killer show!

What’s your favourite thing about doing runway?

The chaos hahaha! No I really love the fast pace of it! The excitement before you hit the runway, the crazy quick changes running around like a mad hen then acting cool calm and collected on the actual runway! It’s also so exciting to bring a designers vision and story to life! Become the character they have worked so hard to create! Seeing their faces at the end of the show is like the groom watching his bride walk up the aisle.

How did you relax after such a huge week!?

I don’t think I left my bed for 24 hours a million fruit juices and face masks! And sleeeeep hahaha

Holly Watson – Bec and Bridge Resort 2018

This is your first Mercedes Benz Fashion Week so far, how has it been?

It has been incredible. Runway is definitely a strong love of mine so being a part of this is such a humbling and rewarding experience. Here’s to many more!

What’s the atmosphere been like?

The atmosphere is definitely more laid back than I thought it would be. Backstage is a whirlwind of excitement and silliness amongst the models.

What did you love about the Bec and Bridge show and what’s one item you would like to be wearing from the collection this summer Resort 2018?

The Bec and Bridge show was stunning. The catwalk was impressive and the walk was fierce. I loved the dress Eden was in actually! It was a blue and white polkadot dress and it would definitely hang happily in my wardrobe. I adore the cut and colour and I’m a sucker for a simple dress to just throw on because honestly I can’t plan out an outfit to save my life.
